Get Ready for Bikini Season with the Brazilian Butt Lift
The daylight hours are longer and the temperatures are rising, which means bikini season is right around the corner. If you’re less than pleased with a butt you feel lacks shape and a certain perkiness, a Brazilian butt lift may be just the solution you’re looking for. Indeed, before the COVID pandemic, Brazilian butt lifts were fast gaining in popularity, doubling between 2015 and 2019.
Here at McHugh Plastic Surgery, Dr. Thomas McHugh offers a wide range of services that help our clients reach their body-shape goals. From breast lifts to Brazilian butt lifts, we can certainly help make you feel more confident the next time you step out in a bikini.
If you want to improve the profile of your rear end, here’s how we accomplish that with the Brazilian butt lift procedure.
Transferring fat
The procedure we’re discussing is called a lift, but that description isn’t quite correct. A better description of the Brazilian butt lift is fat grafting or fat transfer.
More specifically, a Brazilian butt lift is an ingenious approach to giving more shape to your hind end by removing fat from somewhere else in your body and transferring it to your buttocks.
Using liposuction, we remove fat from areas where you have a little to spare, such as in your:
- Abdomen
- Thighs
- Lower back
- Hips
After we collect the fat, we purify it and inject it into strategic locations around your buttocks.
Since we’re using an autologous source of fat, which means it comes from your own body, your body more readily accepts the newly introduced fat. That said, between 20% and 40% of the fat that we transfer is typically reabsorbed into your body, so we take that into account when we figure out how much fat to transfer.
Your Brazilian butt lift timeline
While a Brazilian butt lift requires two steps, we typically combine both into one procedure. In most cases, we place you under general anesthesia so that you’re comfortable as we collect and transfer the fat.
Once you wake, we check to make sure everything went smoothly and then we send you home with complete aftercare instructions. For the first two weeks, you will need to make some changes to your routine, including:
- Not sitting for prolonged periods
- Using a donut when you do sit
- Avoiding sleeping on your back
- Not engaging in any strenuous activities
As the transferred fat settles in, you can gradually get back to placing more pressure on your buttocks. At the same time, swelling will come down and you’ll be able to get your first glimpse of your newly rounded and augmented buttocks.
